Sum 41 were the darlings of Warped Tour this year. They played to the largest crowd of the day (this was true on many of the other tour dates as well) and they were not even on the main stage. Sum 41 have a lot of fans because they have expertly straddled the boundaries between punk-rock and pop-punk. Consistently producing radio-friendly hits like “In Too Deep” and “Fat Lip” while staying true to their sound with songs like “Still Waiting”. The question was, would they kick ass and take names or would they use their celebrity status to coast through Warped Tour?
There would be no coasting today for Sum 41. They fed off the energy from the crowd and really played well. I think they sounded just as good as their albums if not better. Watching Deryck Whibley do his thing is akin to watching a veteran practicing his craft. All around, it was a very good show – just look at the set list, 14 years of punk rock packed into a 40 minute set. What more could you ask for? Its really a shame Deryck was attacked on a side trip to Japan and the band was unable to finish Warped Tour.

Literally the only thing that I would change about the article is that Deryck's name is spelled "Deryck" not "Derek" ;) Great article! They've always been my favourite band, since I can remember, and they get better each and every time I see them play live.
Thanks man! I did spell it right the first time but fucked it up the 2nd - I am a poor journalist. Thanks for reading - rock on!
Good article, except for this statement, which made absolutely no sense: "Consistently producing radio-friendly hits like “In Too Deep” and “Fat Lip” while staying true to their sound with songs like “Still Waiting”." They don't 'consistently' produce songs like those two, as those were in fact their first two major hits. Since their release, Sum 41 have matured their sound, spanning pop-punk, punk, ballads, and even some metal (especially the album "Chuck"). Honestly, I would describe Sum 41's sound as one of the more INconsistent out there. Also, as far as "staying true to their sound" being applied to "Still Waiting" is concerned, that song was off their third album (second if you don't count "Half Hour of Power"), and was released off of "Does This Look Infected?" which showed a drastic change in sound from their major label debut the year prior. Overall, not a bad review, but I'm a hardcore Sums fan, so I can't let stuff like that slide;)
Good points...although I was using "In Too Deep" and "Fat Lip" as examples of the radio friendly hits Sum 41 has produced. And I still contend that they do consistently produce those hits - 12 top 40 songs on the US Alternative charts over the last 10 years is pretty consistent to me...Thanks for the comment - see you in the pit!
good wikipedia research;) but i still would definitely say that their popularity has been as consistent since those initial hits (in fact it's gone down with each album). also their sound has been far from consistent but w/e.
agreed and agreed

Oh someone's god! Every image is hosted on Photobucket and each one's bandwidth has exceeded... I can't see the pictures! You should seriously host your images on your own server, or at least on Flickr.com. Other than that, good article.
We want new album :)
